Te Ra:

School Motto

Inoia       Rapuhia       Patukia

Explanation:     Inoia  (Ask)     Rapuhia  (Seek)     Patukia (Knock).

The school motto has it's origins in the Holy Bible, in the Gospels according to Matthew and to Luke and is part of the Sermon on the Mount.  The overall meaning is to do with perseverance,  we are being encouraged to keep asking, to keep seeking and keep knocking.

In terms of Education (the context in which it is being used here)  it is used to encourage an enquiring mind, to always ask and to never be afraid of asking.  It tells us to seek knowledge, information and advice.  It encourages study, effort and diligence.  It also tells us to persevere in spite of hindrances and that we should pursue things even if they seem insurmountable.  It is about making choices and taking the right options.

Furthermore, we are promised that everyone that asketh receiveth;  and they that seeketh findeth;  and to them that knocketh it shall be opened.

School Monogram

Explanation:
At the centre is a White Whetu (Star) surrounded by a Blue Marama (Moon).  These are symbols which are a central and principal message of our unique identity.  They are indicative of our values, principles and ideals.

Encircling these is the name of our school in te reo maori, Te Kura o Ratana.  It is symbolic of the medium of language that is used in the school.

Beyond that is a blazing sun with eight shafts of sun rays.  The sun represents a bright future, joy, happiness and all that is good in the world.  Each of the Eight shafts of sun rays represents one of the eight years spent at Primary School.  They indicate progress through the various class levels reaching out toward the future.
